Key Activities in 2024 (Permaculture)

1.Building a Permaculture Farm

Permaculture is the practice of designing and cultivating plants in harmony with the environment, without destroying the natural ecosystem, and in a sustainable manner. MyanSEED Farm follows three ethics;

  • Earth Care – Protect and restore natural ecosystems.
  • People Care – Support communities and well-being
  • Fair Share – Limit consumption and redistribute surplus fairly.

Designing is still on progress. We have 6 different zones to design to optimize land use, biodiversity, and resource efficiency.

In Zone 0, the myanSEED Learning Hub has a Farm House called “500 miles”. The building is 30×30 feet in area and is made of 70% old-fashioned bricks, claimed wood, windows and doors, and furniture. “I want to install windows like the Meteora ancient monasteries from the Greek town of Kalabaka, located on the tops of giant rock formations.” “Monks, who have dedicated their lives to God, like those who have spent their lives gazing at nature through their windows,”

In Zone 1, seasonal vegetables, mustard greens, lettuce, and spices that require daily care are grown.

In Zone 2, there are other fruit trees such as pumpkin, cucumber, yam, thorn, pickled cucumber, mulberry, pineapple, cherry berry, fig, guava, etc. There are also chicken and duck farms, a tea garden, a mushroom farm, and an orchid nursery.

In Zone 3, perennial crops such as dragon fruit, banana, mango, lime, lime, tamarind, durian, mangosteen, and durian extract are grown. Among the perennials, shade-loving cassava and pepper are also grown.

In Zone 4, shade-loving mangosteen, bamboo, Forest trees such as teak, mahogany, etc. are planted.

Zone 5 is left untouched so as not to disrupt the natural system. In the stream, there are naturally occurring plants such as water lilies, reeds, seasonal ferns, sedges, mushrooms, etc. In addition, you will see waterfowl and various birds in this stream.

At our farm, we use vermi-compost and vermi tea, super bokashi, fish amino acids, natural pesticides, and fertilizers for the crops and flowers we grow. In addition, we systematically collect and recycle the leaf waste, kitchen waste, and vegetable waste from the farm. These are natural fertilizers and natural medicines, so they do not harm the environment and can be safely consumed by those who will eat them. Throughout this process, MyanSEED team members learn together with the community, which is the essence of the Farm & Learning Hub.
