MyanSEED’s 3rd Community Seed swap
MyanSEED’s 3rd “Community Seed Swap: Take a Seed, Bring a Seed” is Here!
“Did you know that a single seed can live for many years?
We invite you to join us in ‘Take a Seed, Bring a Seed’, a program that will share the amazing history and gifts of survival behind the crops we grow and eat.
Let’s build a green community together by giving one of our seeds and taking another one back.
“The Journey of a Seed and Our Future”.
Humans have mastered the art of “seed exchange” for about 12,000 years. Ancient tribes exchanged precious treasures and “the best seeds” as gifts between villages.
The rice, corn, wheat, and vegetables we grow today did not exist in nature. They are the “gifts of survival” that generations of farmers have collected and exchanged, selecting and exchanging the best, sweetest, and most disease-resistant seeds.
Did you know? We didn’t realize how wonderful seeds are.
Ancient Breath: Scientists have successfully replanted a 32,000-year-old seed buried in the frozen ground. A seed is a “living organism” that can wait indefinitely.
The Global Insurance: The Svalbard Global Seed Bank in Norway is situated more than 400 feet under the surface. More than 1.3 million seeds are kept there in case natural disasters or war cause the world’s vegetation to go extinct.
Seeds are information: Each seed contains genetic information (DNA) that records the climate, soil, and environmental conditions it has experienced.
Let’s revive this ancient tradition in our community with the theme “Take a Seed, Bring a Seed”.
Nowadays, we can easily buy seeds in the market. However, the “local seeds” that come from our own gardens and are suitable for our region are vanishing.
That is why we are holding this event with the theme “Take a Seed, Bring a Seed”. By exchanging our seeds, we will –
Preserve genetic diversity: Protect seeds from extinction.
Share knowledge: Discuss which plants are good and how to plant them.
Make new friends: Create connections with others who are passionate about agriculture.
How can I participate in the MyanSEED “Community Seed Swap”?
Simply bring your locally collected seeds, especially those for everyday vegetables, packed and labeled. You’ll be able to swap seeds from 30th Mar to 3rd April 2026 (Monday to Friday) at the MyanSEED office in Yangon.
What Seeds Can You Receive?
As part of this initiative, we’re also giving out special native seeds from MyanSEED’s collection, including: Okra, Carrot, Radish, White Sorghum, Thakhama and local cucumber varieties, Wax Gourd, beans, and Marigold flower seeds for your home garden!
